Is seems ages since I last updated the web site, apologies for this. I was hoping to get some galleries sorted out from our trip to Rona up onto the site last week. However, having to sort through 1400 photo's is taking a tad longer than planned. I'm also installed some new slide show software onto the site, which is taking a bit of getting my head round. Any how, back to Orrest Head, we'd had this walk planned for quite a while. It was to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Alfred Wainwrights first visit to the Lake District, his first objective on arriving in Windermere was to visit Orrest Head, a recommended local view point. The magnificent views from there inspired his to go on and dedicate 13 years of his life to writing the pictorial guide books that are still so popular today. We met up with a number of other members of the Wainwright Society outside the TIC in Windermere to make the 20 minute climb to the summit. The weather was glorious, warm sunshine, blue skies and light winds, just shame it was little bit hazy which meant the views weren't as good as they could have been. We extended AW route out to Allen Knott, another lovely little spot before returning back to Windermere. This walk show's that you don't have to always climb the high fells to get stunning views, on a clear day, this walk has to be a must if you are visiting the area!
Before starting the walk, we made a quick visit to Windermere (and not Lake Windermere as you sometimes here it called!)
There wasn't a huge amount of wind today, not sure how good the sailing would be?
I know the Rhododendron's cause problems in certain areas but their flowers are really stunning?
At the start of the path up to Orrest Head
It's a fairly easy climb to the summit, it took us about 20 minutes!

It's not everyday we have champagne on the summit of the fells!
The hazy conditions meant the views of the distant mountains was that good today
